IIHER is a nonprofit research organization with origins dating back to 1991 whose purpose it is to investigate human evolutionary biology using the widest possible purview. IIHER serves as the base for paleoanthropological research expeditions, primarily to Africa. Active now is the East Libya Neogene Research Project to the late Miocene site of Sahabi and the middle Miocene site of Jabal Zaltan, Libya. IIHER also hosts periodic summer training institutes in bioanthropology for teachers.
